As a lay deacon of a prominent faith, Bernie Drevnick had a strong testimony of the Savior. Religion was an intricate part of his life. Still, he struggled to find answers to many questions, notwithstanding his many years of church involvement.
One morning he awoke from a particularly interesting dream. Reflecting on the dream, he was prompted to search for a church with additional scripture. When he told his wife, she suggested he follow his feelings.
Weeks passed and Mr. Drevnick forgot about the incident. On a certain day, while switching through television stations, he ran across something that spoke of additional scriptures and his interest was piqued. To his dismay, he found that he had been searching for "the Mormons."
He was well aware of "the Mormon religion" and had already established his opinion about the faith — not a pleasant one.
However, recalling his dream and interested in knowing more about the additional scriptures, he visited a nearby LDS bookstore and came home with some reading material.
Soon, missionaries were visiting his home on a regular basis, providing answers to Mr. Drevnick's many questions. He began attending Church services. Members described him as being so friendly that others could mistake him for the ward greeter were it not for the fact that he introduced himself to everyone as a man of a different faith.
With time, he felt a strong desire to be baptized, despite the risk of offending his congregation and others in the community who held him in high regard. His wife was also against the idea.
Yet, after he had spent more than nine months investigating the Church, his wife finally said, "You act like a Mormon. You speak like a Mormon. You might as well become a Mormon."
Indeed, he acted like a member of the Church, even sharing his testimony with congregations and quoting Latter-day scripture word for word.
With his wife's blessing, Bernie Drevnick joined the Church in December 2006. Now, as a member of the Hudson Ward, Oakdale Minnesota Stake, Brother Drevnick has entered the temple and continues to share his testimony and experience with all who will listen.
