Five members of the Utah Symphony will be spotlighted Thursday when assistant conductor David Cho and the symphony chamber orchestra perform the second of two programs devoted to J.S. Bach's Brandenburg Concertos.

Concertmaster Ralph Matson, principal flute Erich Graf, assistant principal flute Lisa Byrnes, principal oboe Robert Stephenson and associate principal trumpet Jeffrey Luke will be featured in the Brandenburg Concertos Nos. 2, 4 and 6.

These three concertos (like their odd-numbered siblings that were played in January) display rich instrumental variety that makes them unique. No. 2, which will open the concert, is scored for a solo group consisting of violin, flute, oboe and trumpet, while No. 4 features a violin and two flutes in the solo ensemble. No. 6, the darkest and most expressive of the three, doesn't employ any solo instruments. Instead, the work is a concerto grosso scored for violas and cellos.

Cho, who will conduct from the harpsichord, will also talk about each work. The concert will be played without intermission.
