A high-speed chase involving West Valley police and four teens in a stolen car ended early Wednesday morning when the teens jumped out of their vehicle and tried to run away but were quickly rounded up.

About 12:45 a.m. Wednesday, a West Valley officer spotted a vehicle near 4700 S. Redwood Road that committed several traffic violations and had improper license plates, said West Valley Police Capt. Tom McLachlan.

The officer attempted to pull the vehicle over, but the driver kept going. The car went onto I-215, where the chase reached speeds of 100 mph, McLachlan said. Traffic at the time was very light, he said.

The driver got off the freeway in Salt Lake City and ended up at an apartment complex near 400 South and 1400 West. The four occupants jumped out of the vehicle, which kept rolling and bumped into a brick shed. Officers with police K9s were able to quickly corral the teens.

Investigators discovered the key lock was broken off inside the vehicle, which was stolen.

Three of the people police caught were 17 years old or younger, including the driver, who was booked into juvenile detention. One of the passengers was 18 and was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail for investigation of fleeing. Two other juveniles were released to the custody of their parents.
