Jerome "Jerry" C. Gatto

1934 ~ 2008

Jerry Gatto was born in Chicago, Illinois on 22 May, 1934 to Anthony S. Gatto and Mary H. Lococo. He married Elizabeth Lavezzari on September 1, 1961 in Chicago, Ill. He passed away on 8 May, 2008 in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Jerry was a devout Roman Catholic and a graduate of the University of Notre Dame. His love and appreciation of music, gave him the opportunity to earn a scholarship and become the Drum Major for the University Band. Jerry held this

position for an unprecedented four years. He was instrumental in

composing several of the Fighting Irish "Flight Songs" that are still played to this day. He was listed in "Who's Who" of the American

Universities from 1952 through 1956.

In 1974, Jerry moved to Salt Lake City and soon after, became a member of the Italian American League as well as a member of the Geological and Mining Societies of Utah. Jerry enjoyed taking long drives to Delta, Utah where he loved watching the beautiful sunsets of the Western desert. Eventually, this inspired him to open and operate a stone quarry in this region. Most of all, Jerry was known for his quick wit, sense of

humor and hundreds of jokes that he had memorized and available on

every given subject. His love to

entertain, his deep voice and infectious laugh, will be missed by many and can be replaced by no one.
