A noise complaint turned into a six-hour standoff in Ogden, after police say a group of men inside a "known gang house" refused to let guests leave early Sunday morning.
The house at 3535 Madison St. is an "active gang house," said Ogden police Lt. Mike Ashment, though he could not say exactly what gang activity was taking place at the residence.
Around 11:45 p.m. Saturday, police responded to a loud party at that address the home. There were cars parked outside it, but no one answered the door when officers knocked, Ashment said.
"The officers heard some arguing inside the place," he said. "About that time, the dispatcher receives a phone call from some females claiming they're being held against their will by some men with guns. They claim a couple of the females were assaulted."
Police negotiated to persuade the 37 people in the home to come outside, but eventually the Ogden and Layton SWAT teams were called in, Ashment said.
A few women escaped through a window and several suspects surrendered to police. Still, a few men with guns remained inside the home, Ashment said. Police then shot tear gas into the home.
At about 6 a.m., police executed a search warrant at the home, they did not say what, if anything, was found inside.
Fourteen adults were booked into the Weber County Jail for investigations ranging from assault to kidnapping, Ashment said. Three juveniles were booked into the Weber Valley Detention Center for similar investigations.
