For the Salt Lake Bees, there is no such thing as a panic button.
The later the game goes, the Bees (29-7) always like their chances — even when they are losing.
Such was the case Sunday night.
The Bees, who have won nearly one-fourth of their games after trailing in the fifth inning or later, went to the late-game heroics for the second straight game against the Round Rock Express in posting a 6-5 victory in 14 innings.
Salt Lake's Adam Pavkovich, who had struck out in his three previous at-bats, singled home the winning run with two outs in the bottom of the 14th to give the Bees their fourth straight victory.
"I told myself I needed to make a small adjustment and that's what I felt like I made," Pavkovich said. "I felt a little more comfortable in the box. Even though I didn't hit it that good, I found the right spot."
With the win, the Bees maintain their 10-game lead in the Pacific Northern Division. It was their 23rd victory when leading after seven innings.
Despite a brilliant effort from starter Nick Green, who allowed just three runs on seven hits in six innings, Salt Lake trailed 3-2. In the seventh, the first three Bees reached base — Brad Coon and Adam Morrissey on base hits and Freddy Sandoval via a walk — and all three scored without the help of an additional base hit.
With Coon on third, Morrissey stole second, and the first of two throwing errors by the Round Rock catcher allowed Coon to score and advanced Morrissey to third.
Sandoval then stole second, and second throwing error allowed Morrissey's to score to give the Bees a one-run lead with three outs to go.
Round Rock's J.R. House belted a solo homer in the ninth off Matt Wilhite and it would call for further Salt Lake heroics if the Bees were to win.
First, Dee Brown made a great defensive stop at first in the top of the ninth to stop a rally, and in the 12th Bobby Wilson drove in Brown with a single to tie the game at 5 after Round Rock's Edwin Maysonet gave the Express the lead in the top of the inning with a homer.
Sandoval, who scored the winning run, started the Salt Lake rally with a single with one out in the 14th.
Green, who entered the game 3-0, allowed three runs — all earned — on seven hits while striking out six in six innings of work, but he didn't figure in the decision.
Jose Arredondo, who has 10 saves, had the night off after pitching Friday and Saturday nights. Wilhite, who blew the save, allowed two runs on four hits before giving way to Chris Armstrong in the 13th. He eventually went on to earn the win for the first time this season.
Game 3 of the four-game set with Round Rock is set for tonight at 6:35 at Franklin Covey Field.
BEELINES: Kendry Morales was recalled by the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim for the second time this season to replace Chone Figgins, who was placed on the disabled list with a sprained hamstring ... Attendance was 3,559 ... Salt Lake stranded 13 baserunners, while Round Rock left eight.
