Melvin Neil Carlile

1919 ~ 2008

Melvin Neil Carlile passed away May 11, 2008, in Heber City, Utah, after a valiant life here on earth. Born August 28, 1919, to Earl and Lula Carlile. Melvin spent all his life in Heber Valley; being born on the family farm always connected him with the love of farming and hard work. Student Body President of Wasatch High School, FFA member receiving their highest award as American Farmer. Served a mission to California and military service during World War II. After returning, he married Ruth Greenwood February 14, 1947, in the Salt Lake Temple. She preceded him in death on May 26, 1971. They had four children together. Married Ruth Mahoney August 10, 1983, in the Provo Temple.

Melvin worked for many years for the Wasatch County School District, school bus driver for 30 years, and maintained buildings and grounds for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He loved working in the garden and watering was his favorite past time. Melvin and Ruth served a mission in the Billings Montana Mission in 1988-1989, working with the Sioux Indians.

Melvin is survived by spouse, Ruth M. Carlile, of Heber City; children: Neil G. (Diane) Carlile, Heber City, Allan M. (Cynthie) Carlile, Heber City, and Garn W. (Suzanne) Carlile, South Jordan, Utah, Scott (Ginn) Mahoney, Heber City, Bryan (Deanna) Mahoney, Heber City, and Brenda (Dave) Morris, Pleasant Grove, Utah; 29 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Siblings: Brente (Joycelyn) Carlile, Heber City, Garvin (Karen) Carlile, Bountiful, Utah, Rhea (Monte) Robinson, Salt Lake City, Utah, and brother-in-law Dean Hicken, Logan, Utah. Preceded in death by: wife and infant daughter; parents; sisters, Ida Carlile and Marion Hicken; stepsons: Chad and Phil Mahoney.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 14, 2008, 12 Noon at the Heber East Stake Center, 2400 S. 1200 E. Viewing will be held Tuesday, May 13, 2008 from 6-8 p.m. at Olpin-Hoopes Funeral Home, 288 N. Main, Heber, UT, and one hour prior to the service at the stake center. Interment in the Heber City Cemetery. Arrangements in care of Olpin-Hoopes Funeral Home.
