CORVALLIS, Ore. — Cole Anderson hit a fourth-inning grand slam as Utah Valley built an 11-0 lead and held off a late Oregon State charge to knock off the two-time College World Series champions 11-6 on Monday in the first of a two-game series.

The Wolverines (15-34-1) scored two in the first before Anderson's grand slam, following a costly two-out error, making it 6-0 UV. Three more in the fifth and two in the sixth gave the Wolverines an 11-0 lead.

Marcus Moore pitched eight innings and allowed three earned runs (six total) on nine hits to move to 9-5 on the year.

The Beavers (24-20) scored five runs in the eighth to make things interesting, but Jace Brinkerhoff pitched a perfect ninth to seal the win for Utah Valley, which moved to 2-5 all-time against Oregon State.

The series will conclude today at 3 p.m., with Andy Jangard the scheduled starter for the Wolverines.
