Chipotle Mexican Grill is declaring "date night" for married couples this Friday. If they come into any location in the Chipotle chain from 6-9 p.m. and show their wedding rings, each will receive a free menu item (www.chipotle.com).
McDonald's introduced a Southern Style Chicken Biscuit and the Southern Style Chicken Sandwich last week. On Thursday, 7-10:30 a.m., customers can try one of these items for free, with purchase of a medium or large drink.
The Mayan Restaurant, 9400 S. State, offers a dinner-and-movie package for the May 22 premiere of "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull" at the Jordan Commons Megaplex Theater. Price is $35 for adults and $25 for children, which includes a children's scavenger hunt, a buffet dinner beginning at 3 p.m., and reserved seating at an early evening show. Packages can be purchased on the restaurant's Web site at www.themayan.com or at 304-4603. Tickets went on sale Tuesday; 150 seats are available.
Utah Valley State College students took second place in the American Culinary Federations' Regional Hot Foods Competition hosted in Salt Lake City last month. Julia Olsen, Vicki Maxfield, Christian Kubak, Joy Burton and Nate Breneman competed against teams from California, Nevada, Wyoming, Colorado, Arizona, Oregon and Washington. The two-day competition included a skills salon, a four-course menu and a cold foods platter. Coach was Peter B. Sproul, culinary arts instructor at UVSC.
