Just one week away from Fox's \"American Idol\" finale, LDS finalist David Archuleta continued to wow audience members and voters. He set the bar for the night with his first song, \"And So It Goes,\" by Billy Joel.
Tuesday night's contestants had three chances to win votes, with one song chosen by the judges, one by the producers and one by the contestant.
Selected by \"American Idol\" judge Paula Abdul, \"And So It Goes\" was a perfect song choice for Archuleta to start the night with, but the second song was not everyone's favorite.
Archuleta chose \"With You,\" by Chris Brown, as his second song and looked like he enjoyed himself on the stage. However, judge Simon Cowell said, \"It was a bit like a Chihuahua trying to be a tiger.\" Harsh? Yes. True? Not judging by the applause of those who vote to keep Archuleta in the competition week after week. They ate his second performance up.
Whether or not it was the right song choice, the other two finalists, Syesha Mercado and David Cook, did not impress the judges with their second performances either.
Archuletas third performance of \"Longer,\" by Dan Fogelberg, brought back the classic ballad performance Archuleta is so famous for, and the kind the audience goes wild for.
Cowell assured Archuleta that he will be in the finale, especially with the kiss of death Abdul gave Mercado when she said that her performances for the night were not enough to move her on to next week.
Maybe it is too soon to predict, but it looks like it's down to the two Davids. Is it going to be the rocking Cook, or the sweet crooner, Archuleta?
Stay tuned Wednesday for the elimination results.
On a side note, although she is no longer performing in the competition, expressive, well-spoken and talented LDS finalist Brooke White is still a favorite on the American Idol Web site, with her exit video being the most viewed. To watch the video, please click here.
