Donna Potter Ray

Donna Potter Ray (92) residing at Highland Care Center, Holladay, Utah, passed away on April 25, 2008.Donna was born January 15, 1916 near Grace, Idaho to James Franklin and Louisa Sowards Potter. She graduated from Twin Falls High School in 1934. She moved to Salt Lake, where she worked for Mrs. Rice, who taught her the finer points of cooking, which led to her profession of private cateress for 50 plus years. In 1957, Joseph Rosenblatt of Eimco Corporation set us a round table lunch room for his executives with Donna as head to the kitchen for 25 years.
On June 25, 1936, Donna married Richard Young Ray in a double wedding ceremony. Their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple, August 17, 1937. He preceded her in death on May 9, 1982.
Donna's passions were children, family, friends, genealogy, institute/ lectures, quilting, reading, service, temple work, travel and more.
She was an active member of the LDS Church. She loved the Primary Program in which she served for 27 years. She loved teaching the Blazer Scouts. When she was in her seventies, she was a Primary nursery leader. She also served in MIA for six years, Sunday School teacher for six years, Relief Society Visiting Teacher most of her life, Name Extraction Program East Millcreek Canyon Stake for 16 years, and in the Jordan River Temple from 1981 to 2006.
Donna is survived by her four children: two sons, Richard of Salt Lake; and Jim (Linda) of Gilbert, AZ; and two daughters, Sharon (David) Gelb of Vincennes, IN; and Elesa (J.J.) Willhard of West Valley City; 13 grandchildren plus two step grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren and two step great-grandchildren. Potter, and Estella (Ben) Tusi and one brother, Winslow (Laura) Potter preceded her in death.

Funeral services for Donna will be held on Sat., May 17, 2008 at 12 noon at the Larkin Mortuary, 260 East South Temple, Salt Lake City, UT, where friends are invited to call on Fri. evening from 7-9 p.m. and on Sat. morning from 10:45-11:45 a.m. prior to the services.
