Southern Virginia will host faith and knowledge conference
Southern Virginia University in Buena Vista, Va., will host a conference Friday and Saturday jointly sponsored by the Mormon Scholars Foundation and Mormon Scholars in the Humanities.
The conference, under the theme "Interpretation: Latter-day Saint Perspectives," is a continuation of the "Faith and Knowledge" series inaugurated by the religious studies workshop for LDS graduate students at Yale University in February 2007 and a follow-up to the inaugural Mormon Scholars in the Humanities conference in March 2007.
Conference presenters will include scholars from Southern Virginia University, Brigham Young University, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and the College of William and Mary.
"My hope is that Mormon scholars will be able to explore one of the most vexed questions for Mormon intellectuals: 'How do our religious beliefs bear on our scholarship?"' said Richard Bushman, the Howard W. Hunter Visiting Professor in Mormon Studies at Claremont Graduate University and a conference organizer.
Registration is free. For more information, contact John Armstrong at john.armstrong@svu.edu.
