Joseph Richards (Readers' Forum, May 12) claims that Darwinism is only a theory and not proven science. Do you know the definition of a theory? A theory is a set of statements or principles devised to explain a group of facts or phenomena, especially one that has been repeatedly tested or is widely accepted and can be used to make predictions about natural phenomena. The key sentence is repeatedly tested.

Saying Darwinism isn't real is ignorant and closed-minded. In reality, there is no scientific backing for creationism, and that's why it isn't taught in schools. I, however, believe in both, and it really isn't that hard when you think about it.
