LEHI — Saturday promises to be an emotional day for families who will run in the Running With Angels 5K in honor of deceased loved ones.

Pam Hansen of Orem organized the annual race four years ago after she completed her first marathon, losing 100 pounds in the process. Training for the race was also emotionally therapeutic for Hansen, who lost two children.

"Running really gives you time to think," she said. "It's good to take a little time just to remember — to do something in their name."

The 5K, which winds through the Thanksgiving Point gardens, is for both runners and walkers. Proceeds from the 5K will go to a scholarship fund for women who want to improve their health. The money will help put low-income women through a weight loss clinic. As someone who felt "trapped" by health issues after dealing with the loss of her children, Hansen said she wanted to give other women in the same situation a hand.
