Salt Lake City Mayor Ralph Becker will take part in the 16th annual Bike Bonanza on Friday as part of Cycle Salt Lake Week.

The event, put on each year by the Utah Transit Authority, will run from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Gallivan Center, 239 S. Main.

The Bike Bonanza will feature a police-escorted bike ride around downtown Salt Lake City with Becker at 6 p.m., as well as photo opportunities with the mayor on a tandem bike from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Drawings will be held for two specialized bikes and an Eco Moto bike kit. The event also will include a group riding obstacle course, free food and drinks, free bicycle tune-ups and free helmets for kids while supplies last.

In addition to the Bike Bonanza, UTA is promoting each Wednesday through the month of May as "Bike to Work Wednesday," encouraging commuters to give up their single-occupant vehicle one day a week to help raise awareness that bicycling is a sustainable transportation mode choice.
