Henry White won his second Utah Section PGA Match Play Championship by defeating six-time champion Kim Thompson 3 and 1 at Eaglewood Golf Course on Thursday.

White, a Salt Lake native who works at the Performance Golf & Wellness Center, defeated Chris Moody in the morning semifinal before knocking off the 54-year-old Thompson in the afternoon. Thompson had defeated Trevor Salzman 3 and 2 in the semis.

In the final match, White led 2 up after 13 holes but lost the 14th hole and looked like he was going to lose the 16th hole, when his ball nearly rolled into the water. However, he chipped up close for a tap-in birdie and closed out the match on 17.

White took home $2,300 with the victory, while Thompson, a teaching pro at Willow Creek CC, won $1,500. Moody, an assistant at Riverside CC, won the consolation match over Salzman 1 up.
