Nellie O. Tyer of West Jordan, Utah, peacefully passed away in the early morning of May 29, 2008 in Salt Lake City, Utah.Born April 20, 1930 in Alberta, Canada, Nellie was the daughter of Anna and Stephen J. Porayko. She married Dick Daniel Tyer in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada Oct. 5, 1955.

A naturalized citizen of the United States, Nellie was employed at Hill Air Force Base in Clearfield, Utah, from 1965 until she retired. She served in multiple positions and retired as a supervisor. After retirement she and her life-long companion moved to eastern Washington, where they owned and operated the Tyer Fishing Resort at Horseshoe Lake for a few summers. Nellie enjoyed the west, painting with water colors and exploring the deserts of Utah. She and Dick enjoyed their winters in Mexico and south Texas where Nellie was a member of the Brownsville Art League.

Nellie is survived by her two children, Dan (Christine) Tyer of SLC, UT; and Ramona (Dan) Wheeler of Orem, UT; sister, Eunice (Bill) Huffman of Tulsa, OK; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was recently preceded in death by her husband, Dick Feb. 13, 2008.

Viewing and reception will be held on Saturday, May 31, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Starks Funeral Parlor, 3651 South 900 East, Salt Lake City. Graveside service will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Salt Lake City Cemetery, 200 "N" Street, Salt Lake City. Online condolences may be offered to the family at www.starksfuneral.com
