Joseph Max Soelberg
1920 ~ 2008
TUCSON, ARIZONA: Joseph Max Soelberg, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend, passed away at his daughter's home in Tucson, AZ, on May 6, 2008, at the age of 87 due to age.
Max was born May 15, 1920, in Idaho Falls, ID, to Joseph Soelberg and Leona Smart. He was the oldest of four boys. He grew up in Ogden, UT, and graduated from Ogden High. He received an Associate's degree in engineering from Weber State College. At the age of 19 he entered the Utah National Guard and served under his father. He became Sergeant of the 145th Field Artillery. He later met the love of his life, Evelyn Garr and married in the Salt Lake Temple January 20, 1944. Together they had two daughters, and later Evelyn became ill with leukemia. She passed away at their home in Salt Lake when the girls were young. Max later met Delores in Salt Lake, fell in love and they were married on February 18, 1954, in the Salt Lake Temple. Six children were born to them and they raised the eight together in Bountiful for 40 years. He was employed at Continental Bank in Salt Lake for many years and other financial institutions. Max had a love for music and for a significant part of his life he performed as a member of the Swanee Singers. His family loved his hard working abilities and the examples of his love and testimony of Jesus Christ. He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held many church positions. He favored his service in the scouting program as Explorer Leader and High Adventure Leader in the Richards Ward in Salt Lake and 12th Ward in Bountiful. He held many fond memories of his scouting years. He instilled in the youth the importance of the scouting spirit and the gospel of Jesus Christ. After Delores passed away last year in Meadow, Utah, he moved to Tucson, Arizona, to be under the loving and devoted care of his daughter Carolyn. We will greatly miss his endearing humor and constant love.
Max was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Leona Soelberg, wives, Evelyn Garr and Delores Stott, daughter, Judy Kay (Lee) Burnham, and brothers, Verl LeRoy, William LaMar, and Donald Eugene. Max is survived by his children, Carolyn (James) Scott, Stephen (Terri) Soelberg, Karl (Pam) Soelberg,
