I am 31 years old, and, yes, I watch "American Idol." I'm a high school teacher and I need to stay in touch, or maybe I just really like the show.

I am concerned about the amount of press and Web discussion being dedicated to disparaging David Archuleta, his "niceness is all an act," etc. To be honest, I think he's a great kid. I don't know him personally, but having taught teenagers for a number of years here in Utah, it has been my pleasure to teach hundreds of really nice teenagers just like him.

It's sad that we live in a world where people are so quick to assume the worst about others rather than the best. I love what Carnegie Mellon University professor Randy Pausch says in his "Last Lecture": "If you wait long enough, people will surprise and impress you." I'd hate to think that it's now "bad" to be nice.
