HOLLADAY — A 16-year-old boy died after falling about 40 feet through a skylight at Bonneville Junior High School early Thursday evening.
Around 5:30 p.m., the teen and a friend were at the school early for a soccer practice and climbed up on the roof of the school, 5530 S. 1660 East, said Salt Lake County sheriff's deputy Shane Manwaring.
The teens split up on the roof of the school, with the boy's friend staying on top the main part of the school and the victim walking on the gymnasium roof.
"His friend heard a crashing noise and called out to his friend," Manwaring said. "The friend didn't answer him, so he climbed on to the roof of the gymnasium. That's where he saw that the skylight had been broken and his friend was at the bottom."
The teen fell about 40 feet to the gymnasium floor, police said. He died at the scene.
