N.Z. Olympic relay team disqualified

BEIJING — A member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Hayley Palmer, and her New Zealand Olympic swimming relay team were disqualified in the women's 4-by-200-meter freestyle relay Wednesday in Beijing, and will not proceed to the event's final. The team's fourth and final swimmer, Natasha Hind, left the starting block too early and was disqualified. Palmer swam third, splitting 1 minute, 59.92 seconds. The team was in seventh place in the heat when Palmer finished her leg, so likely would not have qualified anyway for the finals.
