MIDVALE — A young boy drowned in a backyard swimming pool Monday.

About 3:20 p.m., the boy was wearing a life preserver and swimming with his father at their home, near 500 E. Carmel Drive, when the boy got sick and vomited, said Midvale Police Sgt. John Salazar.

The father took the 3-year-old boy out of the pool and took the life preserver off to clean it, police said. He went inside the house for a short time. When he returned, he found the child face down in the 4-foot pool, Salazar said.
