A former University of Utah football recruit has been charged with bringing a gun to a gang fight.

On May 31, Keni Kaufusi, 18, was outside a Wendy's restaurant, 6150 S. Highland Drive, and yelling at a drive-through attendant when police responded to a large graduation party nearby, according to charges filed Monday in 3rd District Court.

Kaufusi had a blood alcohol content of .135, according to the charges.

Police also found open beers and a loaded 9 mm handgun on the front seat of Kaufusi's car, according to the charges. Kaufusi told police he brought the gun in case "the gang fight got crazy and he needed to use it," according to court documents.

Kaufusi faces charges of possession of a dangerous weapon with intent to assault, a class A misdemeanor, and unlawful consumption of alcohol by a minor, a class B misdemeanor.
