Dell will pay $25,000 to Utahns as part of a national settlement involving Dell Computer and Dell Financial Services, according to an announcement by Francine A. Giani, director of the Utah Department of Commerce.
Utahns who bought computer products from Dell between April 2005 and Jan. 29, 2009, may be eligible for a refund if they had problems with the companies' financing promotions, rebate offers, technical support and/or repair policies.
Applications must be made to the Utah Division of Consumer Protection before May 29 to be included.
Besides agreeing to the settlement money, Dell agreed to change its business practices, including its advertising of financing and credit offers, how it fulfills rebate offers, provision of warranty services and account collection procedures. The company admitted no liability or wrongdoing.
A Dell claim form is available by visiting the division's web site at www.dcp.utah.gov. Utah residents may also call the division at 801-530-6601 or from outside the Salt Lake area may call toll free 1-800-721-7233 to request a form by mail.
