RIVERTON — A two-alarm fire in Riverton Wednesday destroyed a garage and the cars parked within it, but firefighters were able to keep the blaze from destroying the home.

The call came in around 5:45 p.m., and crews arrived shortly thereafter to find a fully attached garage near 12400 South and 3500 West full of flames.

Firefighters were able to keep the fire contained to the garage area, and only minimal damage was done to the home, Unified Fire Authority spokesman Wade Russell said.

Russell said investigators believe the fire was caused by a radiant space heater inside the garage. The estimated amount of damage to the cars and garage is $250,000.
