Westminster College is looking for singers to participate in its new community chorale.
The group will consist of 40 to 80 singers, performing various masterworks, and will be lead by Jean Applonie, artistic director of Viva Voce! The purpose, she said, is to foster community relations with the school, building community on and off campus.
"I plan to provide an eclectic program of music, giving singers and audiences the best music from a variety of styles in a concert that will never be too long," Applonie said.
Group auditions for community members, ages 17 to 65, will be held Aug. 25 at 7:30 p.m. in the Jewett Center for the Performing Arts. Experience is helpful, but no necessary. The chorale will run from Sept. 1 to Dec. 12, with rehearsals held Wednesdays from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., with an additional 30-minute section rehearsal twice a month. Singers will be required to participate in one technical rehearsal Dec. 10, one dress rehearsal Dec. 11, and a final concert Dec. 12.
