The Utah State Advisory Council on Science and Technology is accepting nominations for the 2009 annual Governor's Medal for Science and Technology Awards.

The governor presents the medal to individuals who have provided distinguished service to the state in science and technology. The awards will be presented at a gala later in the year.

The council is responsible for administering the award and for recommending nominees. This year, nominations will follow a simplified, two-step submittal process. A one-page form is all that is needed to initiate a nomination.

The form can be accessed online at business.utah.gov/programs/science-advisor/governors-medals. As needed, nominees selected from the first round of applications may be asked to submit a more complete application package.

Nominations can be made in any one of five categories: academic, science education, industry (including independent inventors and entrepreneurs), industry (company) and government. Any Utah resident or organization may submit nominations, which must be received by 5 p.m. Aug. 31.

Nominations should be addressed to State Science Advisor, Governor's Office of Economic Development, 324 S. State, Suite 500, Salt Lake City, 84111, or faxed to 801-538-8888.
