Hundreds of Mormons gathered in Camarillo, Calif.,
Saturday to celebrate the anniversary of the arrival of Brigham Young
and Mormon pioneers in the Salt Lake Valley in 1847.
A potluck dinner was held at The Church of Jesus Christ of
Latter-day Saints on Paseo Camarillo, just behind Camarillo City Hall,
where food stations were set up to look like covered wagons in a half
circle.
\"It's going to be like an old-fashioned wagon circle picnic, like on
the trail when people would stop the wagons and get out their blankets
and have a family and friends gathering, and that was the kind of feel
we wanted to embrace today,\" said Rachel Price, 25, a hair stylist in
Camarillo who was in charge of the crafts table.
\"In Utah, it's a state holiday and there's a parade,\" said Joel
Russell of the Camarillo congregation, or ward, as the church calls it.
