Herbert inaugural open to all

All Utahns are invited to the Tuesday noon inauguration of Gary Herbert at the State Capitol.

However, seating is limited. There will be standing room only inside the rotunda doors.

Lt. Gov. Herbert will be sworn in as Utah's 17th governor after Gov. Jon Huntsman Jr. formally resigns. Huntsman was confirmed Friday by the U.S. Senate to be the United States ambassador to China, an appointment President Barack Obama announced in mid-May.

Huntsman will give a farewell address and Herbert will offer his inaugural address during the ceremony.

Herbert has already named state Sen. Greg Bell, R-Fruit Heights, as his lieutenant governor. But Bell will not be sworn in Tuesday. Under a new Utah constitutional amendment, the state Senate must confirm Bell's appointment. That will be done during legislative interim meetings on Aug. 19.

On Tuesday, Capitol doors will open at 11 a.m. Those planning to attend are asked to be seated by 11:30 a.m.
