Fleeing man Tasered twice

WEST JORDAN — A man is in police custody after he allegedly fled the scene of an accident and refused to surrender to police who Tasered him.

Shortly after 4 p.m., a West Jordan police dispatcher called for officers to respond to a hit-and-run collision near 5600 West and 9000 South.

A Utah Highway Patrol trooper spotted a vehicle matching the description and stopped it in an effort to make an arrest, a West Jordan police spokesman said.

The trooper deployed his Taser when the man tried to flee on foot, but the man pulled the prongs out and ran into a nearby LDS church.

It is unclear how long a standoff lasted, but officers Tasered the man a second time when he attempted to escape out a back door.

Police have not released the man's identity.
