Fire officials believe arson caused a fire Thursday night at a construction site for a new school, the Salt Lake City Fire Department said.
Firefighters were dispatched to Hillside Intermediate School, 2375 E. Garfield Ave., shortly after 8 p.m. after two fires burned in separate rooms, spokesman Scott Freitag said
The school, which does not have power lines connected, was empty when firefighters arrived on scene.
The fire caused minor damage to the structure and burned mostly construction supplies.
"The building is brand new so it's mostly non-combustible," Freitag said.
Fire investigators will return to the scene on Friday when daylight can assist them in identifying the cause.
"We're confident this fire was caused intentionally," Freitag said.
