Revise Veterans Day

Over the river and through the woods to Grandmother's house we go.

But now young people live 500 miles from their parents' home.

To make it easier for them, the Friday before Labor Day should be made a federal holiday. The roads are not icy on Labor Day.

Second, for those who don't think we need another federal holiday, consider moving Veterans Day — which is close to Thanksgiving — to the Friday before Labor Day.

It could be called Veterans and Family Day.

Families could travel on Friday, visit Saturday and Sunday, travel home on Monday and be back in school and at work by Tuesday.
