Papilion House receives grants

AMERICAN FORK — Thanks to several grants, a nonprofit organization that helps women in substance-abuse recovery to transition back into the community will soon be able to serve more clients.

The Papilion House Inc. recently received a $1,000 grant from Home Depot and just learned it will be receiving another grant through the Utah Families Foundation in the form of proceeds from the 2009 Utah Charities Golf Challenge, said executive director Angela Waghorne.

The grant, plus volunteer labor from Home Depot, will facilitate construction of a third bathroom and a sixth bedroom in the home, which will allow more women to benefit from the program, Waghorne said.

The organization, licensed by the Department of Human Services, provides classes, life-skills training, pre-employment workshops and monthly outings to help women become successful, responsible and accountable for themselves and their sobriety, Waghorne said.
