Man wanted in baseball bat attack surrenders

WEST VALLEY CITY — A man accused of beating another man with a baseball bat turned himself in Sunday night.

Brian Seui, 21, was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail for investigation of aggravated assault, a third-degree felony.

On Friday, a 26-year-old man was in his front yard with his wife and kids when he was approached by four other men, said West Valley Police Capt. Tom McLachlan.

The 26-year-old took out a knife and attempted to stab Seui, according to a Salt Lake County Jail report. Seui found an aluminum baseball bat on the ground, chased the 26-year-old down, and struck him several times, leaving him unconscious in his yard when police arrived.

The 26-year-old was taken to the hospital in critical but stable condition with multiple head fractures, McLachlan said. Seui was arrested after his family made him surrender to police Sunday.

Police were investigating whether the initial fight was gang-related. Seui claimed he went to the victim's house to talk to him about flashing gang signs at his brother, according to a jail report.
