The hair on the back of my neck is bristling as I write. Are we to believe that because J.R. Kearl is a graduate of MIT he has the answers to the BCS mess?
Once again, we have been given a smoke screen. Of course it's about the megabucks; everyone knows that. By lining the pockets of the BCS conference teams, the teams have an advantage in recruiting, facilities, hiring top quality coaches and other advantages.
We know it's all about greed. But the real issue is: Who is No. 1 at the end of the year?
With Mr. Kearl's background as a professor of economics, even he should be able to understand No. 1. The No. 1 team should be the team that goes through a playoff system undefeated, thereby earning the distinction. It should not be a gift to the team that sits in a BCS conference and inherits the crown by virtue of being a member of that exclusive group.
Some drastic changes are in order.
