WEST VALLEY CITY — Four juveniles, all believed to be gang members, were arrested in connection with an armed robbery at a Mexican restaurant Wednesday night.
Two males walked into Rancherito's Mexican Food, 3201 S. Redwood Road, about 11:30 p.m. One was carrying a handgun, the other a large knife, said West Valley Police Capt. Tom McLachlan.
"They ordered the customers not to move, grabbed the cash tray from the register and left," he said.
Witnesses were able to get a description of the getaway vehicle and called 911. An officer in the area of 3400 West and 3700 South spotted a car matching the description and pulled it over.
Inside were four juveniles, including the two believed to have robbed the restaurant, McLachlan said. The four boys, all of them 16 or 17 years old, were booked into juvenile detention for investigation of aggravated robbery. Police are planning to seek gang enhancements when the charges are reviewed with the Salt Lake District Attorney's Office.
The weapons displayed in the restaurant were not found in the vehicle. They were believed to have been tossed before the car was pulled over, McLachlan said.
