When you combine the first week of the football season with mid 80's heat, it's no wonder you see a lot of fatigue.
"We've got to get in better shape, we ran out of gas there at the end," said Skyline coach Roger DuPaix.
"We played hard, that's one thing, but we've got to get in better shape. We've got a lot of people cramping," echoed senior quarterback Chase Dunford following the Eagles victory over the Hurricane Tigers 27-14.
Fatigue or no fatigue, Skyline was able to start the season off right by putting together an opening drive that took a total of three minutes. After two incomplete passes and five run plays, senior running back Algernon Brown was able to break loose for a 13 yard run to put the Eagles up 6-0.
Skyline's second drive of the game resulted in more of the same. Dunford was able to calmly march his team down the field by completing a 10-yard pass to senior wide receiver, Jared Hultquist which put the Eagle's in solid field position to set up the Eagles second touchdown of the quarter. Dunford capped the drive off on a four-yard quarterback keeper. A two-point conversion put the Eagles up 14-0.
Just when the game appeared to be shaping up as a one-sided contest, Hurricane was able to settle down and put some points on the board. With 7:12 left in the half, senior QB Tim Long put together a near-flawless drive that took to the air.
