The Salt Lake City Fire Department arrested a 32-year-old man on suspicion of aggravated arson on Monday in an apartment fire on July 23.

Fire investigators believe Derek Juan Baez started a fire at the Westgate apartment complex near Redwood Road and 200 South.

Nobody was injured during the blaze, but six inhabitants, including a 3-year-old child, had to escape out a window.

According to a jail report, Baez admitted to intentionally setting the fire. He told investigators he had ignited a sofa that he had placed in front of an apartment's door after fighting with an occupant, the report said.

Officials are expected to file formal charges with the Salt Lake County District Attorney this week.
