Listening to the debate over "health" insurance (actually, "sickness" insurance), I find it almost astounding that nobody is giving serious discussion to controlling the cost element of the equation. No matter what mechanism is being used to gather funds and pay claims, unless and until we resolve the issue of astronomical escalation of costs, it won't work.
Look at any other sector of our economy. Costs in other areas are controlled by either competition, a legislative body or some panel like a public service commission. When none of these systems come into play, you're asking for runaway costs and massive corruption.
Welcome to what we have now.
And I get amused when people say we don't want socialized health care. We already have that. It's called Medicare and Medicaid. We just don't have it for people who work.
