FARMINGTON — A West Point woman has pleaded guilty to attempted desecration of a human body after the body of her newborn was found inside a small cooler in the trunk of her car.

Stephanie Ludene Hulmston entered the plea to the class A misdemeanor in 2nd District Court on Thursday.

Defense attorney Craig Peterson says the 26-year-old woman's baby was stillborn in a home about a year ago. He says that when she had the baby she didn't know what to do with it. He says she wrapped the body in a blanket then put it in a cooler and in her car.

The state medical examiner's office couldn't determine whether the baby was alive at birth.

The Davis County attorney's office filed charges only last month, about a year after investigators found the infant's body.

Sentencing is set for Oct. 8.
