The Pretenders lead singer Chrissie Hynde is taking some time off from her world tour Monday to put her animal-rights sentiments to music.
Hynde will kick off a national advertising campaign in front of a McDonald's in downtown Salt Lake City, protesting the fast-food chain's slaughter practices. The singer developed the campaign, titled "i'm hatin' it," in conjunction with People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals.
The animal-rights group says U.S. suppliers for McDonald's scald birds to death in defeathering tanks, among other things.
PETA will distribute "Unhappy Meals" containing mangled plastic chickens and "blood"-filled ketchup packets at the protest. Hynde hopes to spawn a McDonald's boycott.
The demonstration will take place at noon at 242 S. 700 East.
