Nobody is surprised that Rep. Mike Noel and his anti-science legislative colleagues on the Hill refuse to peer into Galileo's telescope. Nobody is surprised that the gang had their minds made up long before the "hearing" began. What is surprising is the level of contempt the gang has blatantly shown for constituents who don't agree with them. You would think that Noel and his gang would at least have had the good sense to try to veil their contempt by trying to have some semblance of fairness at the hearing. Any statesman, demonstrating real leadership and respect for the legitimate legislative process, would have allowed the opposition to at least have its "day in court" regardless of his mind-set.
Not one climate expert appeared before the committee. One wonders how much lower the credibility of some of the committees on the Hill can drop.
