President Henry B. Eyring of the LDS Church will speak at Dixie State College's first convocation as it begins a new school year.
Although the convocation is a non-denominational event, the First Counselor in the First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will provide an inspirational address to students at 7 p.m. at the Cox Auditorium on the St. George campus.
"President Eyring has a special love for young people and vast experience in education," said Dixie State President Stephen D. Nadauld. "He has been an inspirational teacher, an outstanding leader and a trusted advisor. This will be a great opportunity for Dixie State College students to hear from a superb educator whose counsel and insight will prepare them well for the coming academic year."
Other area clergy members will be in attendance at the secnd annual convocation, as well as the college's administration and Board of Trustees. The program will include inspirational songs and performances by students and faculty from Dixie State's Cultural Arts department.
