WEST VALLEY CITY — A 46-year-old diabetic man with the mental capacity of a 15-year-old and who had been missing for almost 24 hours was found early Monday.

A Salt Lake County sheriff's deputy on patrol in the area of 3900 South and 4000 East spotted a man darting into some trees about 3 a.m., said West Valley Police Capt. Tom McLachlan. The deputy stopped to check out the man who appeared to be hiding and discovered it was Curtis Adams, who had been reported missing.

Adams had last been seen about 1 a.m. Sunday. Family members were especially concerned about him because he is type 1 diabetic insulin dependent and was without his medicine.

When the deputy found Adams early Monday, he was "acting very unusual," McLachlan said. Adams was taken to a local hospital, where he was checked and released to family members.
