Local firefighters are hoping to fill their boots with stacks of money this month.

The 55th annual Fire Fighter Fill the Boot Drive is under way, and firefighters will be at the Gallivan Center on Tuesday to raise money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

Since 1954, the drive has raised $375 million for the association. Last year alone, firefighters raised more than $341,000 for life-enhancing programs for people with neuromuscular diseases.
