A judge has ordered a Bountiful insurance agent to serve up to 45 years in prison following convictions on charges of fraud and exploitation of a vulnerable adult.

In May, 44-year-old Darin Perkins pleaded guilty to three second-degree felonies for stealing nearly $300,000 from three siblings he met at a senior citizen fair in 2003.

Prosecutors say Perkins was selling life insurance for New Millennium Insurance and took control of the family's home and bank accounts.

They say Perkins used the money to buy luxury items, including cars and watercraft.

The siblings, ages 78, 77 and 75, were left in danger of losing their home.

Third District Judge Robin Reese on Monday ordered Perkins to serve the maximum one to 15 years on each felony count. Perkins must also pay $296,000 in restitution.
