Salt Lake gymnast Fumina Kobayashi will graduate from Brighton High early and join the Utes in December. Kobayashi has signed a tender of financial aid, bringing Utah's freshman gymnastics class to three. Katelyn Mohr and Meg Whitney signed national letters of intent last November and are currently enrolled in classes.

Kobayashi, who initially planned to walk on in the fall of 2010, was awarded Utah's remaining scholarship for the upcoming season. She was the Utah state balance beam champion in 2007 and 2008, and won the state floor exercise title in 2009. She made the TOPS National Team as a 9- and 10-year-old. Kobayashi trains at Olympus School of Gymnastics for Mary Wright and Ryan Kirkham and is an honor-roll student at Brighton.

"We are thrilled that Fumina was able to graduate and join our team earlier than anticipated," said Utah coach Greg Marsden. "When we had an unplanned opening on our roster, we were very concerned about our depth and Fumina will help resolve that issue. Plus, it's always great to have a local gymnast on our team."
