Alisa K. Terry (Readers' Forum, Aug. 25) says the caste system must end because people are working in jobs that don't pay enough and it's unreasonable to expect them to work harder or get more education. What am I missing? Unless your name is Rockefeller or Kennedy, I don't think anyone was "given" anything. It all has to be earned.
If you're dissatisfied about your current situation, what are YOU going to do to make it better? Many of us worked lower-paying jobs while getting an education or worked the long hours for the promise of a better future. No one is holding anyone back. If you don't like how things are going, don't look for someone else, especially the government, to make it better. Be personally accountable, work hard, and good things happen.
