WENDOVER — A small plane taking off from Wendover Airport made an emergency landing on I-80 Wednesday evening after it began leaking fuel.

Shortly after 6:30 p.m. the plane, bound for Salt Lake City, touched down on the eastbound lanes near mile marker 4, said Utah Highway Patrol spokesman Cameron Roden.

The pilot, whom police have yet to identify, had one passenger on board. Both were uninjured, but the plane clipped a semitrailer on landing.

"It was lucky that they were landing with traffic," Roden said, noting that the plane was heading east.

"This could have been real bad. If it was heavy traffic or if they were coming in real fast, they could have hit other cars."
