Michele and Steve Watts had squared everything away and were working on their mission papers when Watts got a phone call from American Mothers, Inc., asking if they'd mind postponing their mission if she was chosen as Oregon's Mother of the Year, which she was. It was tough, she said, but they realized being Mother of the Year was another kind of mission.

Recently retired, Watts, of the Sandy River Ward, Mount Hood Oregon Stake, taught elementary school for 20 years after her five children were grown.
